Care

Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them—not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be.' - 1 Peter 5:2a

Food Ministry Resources

Our mission:

To foster relationships, build community and show love through the gift of food.

Our focus:

This ministry has three components, each with their own unique focus and intent.

Food Matters Volunteers:

This team knows that Food Matters and desires to work together to provide the meals that bring us together. ”As the SBC family “Follows Jesus, Together,” there are so many opportunities to share food together and with our community. This includes barbecues, welcome lunches, funerals, special events and so much more.

The Food Matters volunteers work together, under the leadership of a coordinator, to ensure the preparation and serving of food is done in a seamless, safe and joyful manner. Duties include food prep, plating, serving and kitchen clean up, with volunteers signing up for the tasks that suit them best.

If you would like to volunteer in this ministry, or would like more information, please contact Sue Julien (suzyjulien@hotmail.com / 250-494-1476) or the church office.

Emergency Freezer Meals:

Everyone goes through times of crisis or need when cooking a nutritional meal is difficult. But everyone needs to eat. A ready-made frozen meal can fill a sudden or emergency need, but more importantly, it is a reminder that the folks at SBC care.

These frozen meals are prepared by a team of Food Safe certified volunteers. The meals are nutritious, labelled with ingredients and cooking instructions, and dated. These frozen meals are made available to anyone who needs a ONE-TIME meal. Church attendance or membership is not required.

If you or someone you know finds themselves with the unexpected need for a meal, please contact Pam Borchert (250-801-4366) or the church office.

Take Them A Meal:

Showing up with a warm meal at someone’s door is a practical way to show someone you care. We all go through difficult seasons, and the reality is that even when life is tough, dinner time still inevitably comes. So when you have a brand new baby, or an aching body, or a broken soul, a meal prepared by someone else is a simple, yet significant gift.

The Take Them a Meal ministry has a team of individuals who enjoy providing and delivering a nourishing dinner to people who need some regular meals to get them through a challenging time. When a need is known, volunteers are emailed a sign-up schedule so they can sign up to take a meal, if and as they are able.

If you are interested in being a part of the Take Them a Meal ministry, or know someone who needs meals, please contact Lori Said (loribsaid@gmail.com) or the church office.

Visitation

We believe that people in our church family who are unable to gather with us should still have a connection and feel that they belong. The Visitation Ministry is designed to focus on SBC members and adherents who are no longer able to attend due to advanced age or poor physical, or emotional health. We also include family caregivers in this visitation ministry. Together we will cultivate connection, belonging, and transformation in the lives of the people we serve and in our own lives as well.

To serve in this ministry:

If you would be willing to join our Visitation Team and share your time, talents, and giftings by visiting individuals who are unable to attend Sunday services and other events, please contact the coordinators of the Visitation Committee: Patricia Gregory and Heidi Friesen (Email: visitation@summerlandbaptist.ca ) or (contact the church office at 250 494-3881).

If you are a caregiver or would like to request a visit or make us aware of a need for one, you can email visitation@summerlandbaptist.ca to connect with our coordinators. You can also pick up request forms in person at the SBC office during the week, or at the Information Counter at our Sunday gatherings.
